July in Winter

1. If in winter you feel chilled
and need a RESPITE soon,
grab a pen and paper
and go in a cozy room.
Gather and write down some thoughts
of summer days and sun
when you were relaxed, informal,
and not on the run.
Just like certain people
have a Christmas in July,
we should bring July to winter.
Let me tell you why.

2. Everyone needs something
to look forward to each day.
Many love excitement,
while still others like to pray.
There are individuals
who love to clean or cook,
though many would much rather
read a quiet cozy book.
Whichever way you look at things
I think you’ll surely find
that when life overwhelms us,
true ESCAPE is in our mind.

3. This is why in winter months
when we are cold as ice,
we must search for warm
and summery thoughts at any price.
I love to think of hamburgers
and hot dogs on the grill
with fresh baked pies and cookies
sitting on the window sill.
Barbecues are great
and so much fun on summer days.
They can please our SENSES
in so very many ways.

4. AROMAS of fried chicken drumsticks
fill us with delight.
And watermelon slices
are refreshing, cool and light.
Add a glass of fresh cold lemonade
and you’ll agree
that this sounds like a pleasurable meal,
to the highest degree!
Whether in a friend’s backyard
or picnic in the park
barbecues bring pleasure
in the day until it’s dark.

5. When the sun begins to set
and crickets start to sound,
glowing torches make
a peaceful ATMOSPHERE abound.
At times when you have trouble
finding warm and cozy thoughts,
try hard to remember
this great lesson I have taught.
Winter days will fly right by
enjoyably and free,
if you will think warm summer thoughts
when it is wintery!
