When I Was Young

1. When I was young my life was filled,
with happy MEMORIES
that I have stored within my heart,
to comfort and to please.
My mother cooking in the kitchen,
with a pleasant smile,
would chat with me about her dinner,
for a little while.
The homey, oval, marble
kitchen table had six chairs
with black wrought iron backs
and light pink seats, so quaint and rare.

2. I loved our little HOUSE,
nestled upon the country road.
The rooms were small and cozy,
in our safe village abode.
Our yard was of an ample acreage,
of grassy green,
and behind us was the school,
though partially unseen.
The trees on both sides of the road,
were tall and sheltering.
As you drove beneath them,
it was such a charming scene!

3. When Father arrived home from work,
the table was all set,
and we sat down to DINNERS,
that we never would forget.
Tempting meatballs and spaghetti,
were served every week,
setting taste buds watering,
so we could barely speak.
Another was a scrumptious roast,
that cooked for several hours,
with carrots and potatoes,
placed on table set with flowers.

4. Quiet evenings reading,
or enjoying some TV,
were such a variation,
of the fast pace now we see.
Dad would mow the lawn on weekends,
while Mom cleaned the house,
as each of them enjoyed their chores,
as quiet as a mouse.
My very favorite recollection,
was Mom baking her PIES,
so delicious, on the weekends,
causing heartfelt sighs.

5. How I wish I could relate to you,
those blessed days,
which brought me joy and such CONTENTMENT,
in so many ways.
If you do not have memories,
or dreams as fond as these,
I hope this message that I wrote,
will set your heart at ease.
Then with the reminiscences,
of this endearing poem,
begin creating memories,
all of your very own!
